Psychological Testing
A psychological evaluation assesses an individual’s level of functioning in the areas of cognitive skills (e.g. neuropsychological symptoms), developmental progression, and emotional and behavioral functioning. The evaluation is useful for obtaining a clear diagnosis, assessing a disability, and developing efficacious treatment.
Psychological testing can be helpful to identify and better understand attention difficulties (such as those found in a diagnosis of ADHD), intellectual capacity (including assessing for presence of an intellectual disability), developmental delays (including autism spectrum disorders), executive functioning deficits (including those found in fetal alcohol/substance spectrum disorders), mood and anxiety disorders, and personality disorders.
The entire psychological testing process takes about a month from start to finish. This includes the intake session (approximately 60 minutes), insurance pre -authorization process, actual testing time (this takes several hours and may be scheduled over multiple dates), interpretation by a clinical psychologist, and a face-to-face feedback session where results are conveyed and a written report is provided.
